I am visiting CSI as a PhD student at the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and Theory of Science at the University of Gothenburg. Situated at the intersection of science and technology studies, philosophy of science, and environmental ethics, my dissertation explores how the Ecosystem Approach is implemented as a marine governance framework to support more sustainable and balanced human–nature relations.
Drawing on empirical case studies with authorities, researchers, and local stakeholders, I study how multiple values are produced, translated, and operationalized, and the ways in which nature is enacted through these epistemic practices. I also explore the role of scientific models in marine governance, specifically how they mediate knowledge, coordinate actors, and incorporate both political and ethical trade-offs.
I am particularly interested in the tensions between different management logics, from strategies aimed at maximizing fish yields to those prioritizing ecosystem conservation, and how these tensions shape what counts as valuable knowledge and actionable policy in and beyond the Anthropocene. I hope to further explore the epistemic and ethical challenges of producing knowledge that not only serves governance needs but also remains attentive to ecological uncertainties and socio-political complexities.
