François Thoreau

François Thoreau is a qualified FNRS researcher attached to the Spiral research centre at the University of Liège. François was granted a Starting Grant funding from the European Research Council in 2020 for a project on the political anthropology of techniques regarding selection and reproduction in cattle breeding (2021-2026). This project addresses in particular the environmental issues surrounding livestock farming, such as antibiotic resistance, methane and nitrogen emissions and the genetic diversity of herds. He coordinates an interdisciplinary team of social scientists working on these issues and is curently developing tools aimed at fostering a sense of community in contemporary universities, as well as a shared research culture.

In my presentation, I will address the notions of nature, war and peace. I have chosen to address these notions departing from my necessarily singular experience of reading Bruno Latour’s work. I would like to follow the different effects his thought has had on the reader I am, in order to show how the idea of Nature is affected in return, and how this redistributes notions of war and peace in different ways.
