Antoine Hardy

Postdoctoral researcher

  • Presentation

Antoine Hardy’s postdoctoral research aims to understand how the consideration of the environmental impact of computer science research contributes to the redefinition of the field. He is thereby extending his Ph.D. research on the “greening” of scientific practices. This research project, funded by lnria, is co-supervised by Clément Marquet (Mines-PSL) and Sophie Quinton (Inria Grenoble).

Antoine’s work lies at the crossroads of the sociology of science, the sociology of the environment and the sociology of quantification. His research focuses in particular on the relationship between climate change, scientific work and scientific authority. In his doctoral thesis, which he defended in 2024, he studied the French scientific movements that are trying to change the way research is conducted by quantifying the greenhouse gas emissions of scientific activities. In 2024, he coordinated a Zilsel journal dossier on what is altering the circulation and production of knowledge in the context of environmental degradation. He also co-edited, with Laurène Le Cozanet, the book Les publics de la mise en nombre (Presses des Mines, 2025).

His teaching experience spans several higher education institutions (Sciences Po Paris, Université d’Évry – Université Paris-Saclay, Université de Nantes, École Polytechnique).
