David Pontille’s research stands at the crossroad of science and technology studies, anthropology of writing, and ethnography of work. His work is organized into three topics: writing practices in different professional settings, the evaluation technologies of scientific research (authorship and attribution of productions, journal rankings, bibliometrics, peer review), the politics of maintenance dedicated to technologies and infrastructures.

Currently, he is interested in the recent transformations of the scientific contribution associated with new forms of valuation and modes of characterizing cheating practices. In parallel, with Jérôme Denis, he develops a program dedicated to the politics of maintenance, sustained by in-depth ethnographic fieldwork, particularly in urban settings (subway signs, graffiti removal), that contributes to a theoretical reflection on the care for fragilities.

David Pontille joined the CSI in 2012. Founding member of Revue d’Anthropologie des Connaissances, he also co-leads a blog dedicated to ordinary writing practices: Scriptopolis.
