Francesco Bertuccelli

Visiting researcher - PhD student at the University of Pisa, Italy

  • Presentation

Francesco Bertuccelli joined the CSI as a visiting fellow from March to May 2025. He is a PhD candidate in Political Science (Sociology, History and Political Culture) at the University of Pisa. His research interests are in the field of general sociology, and include social theory, social science epistemology and political ecology.

His doctoral research focuses on the study of a particular industrial sector, the luxury yachting industry, located along the coast between the regions of Liguria and Tuscany in Italy. The organisation of the industry, as well as the living and working conditions of the actors in the sector, are examined from different angles, based on an ethnographic study and qualitative interviews. The aim of the research is to examine, through the prism of public interest, the environmental and economic impact of the production of these complex objects on the territory under study. This work also contributes to a reflection on sociological research itself as situated expert knowledge.
