Zones

Introduction to the discussion by par Lou Stührenberg and Laurine Lièvremont
Zone: A ubiquitous term, yet one that remains elusive. In a surprising conceptual investigation at the crossroads of geography, psychoanalysis, and science fiction, Jeanne Etelain explores how the “zone” has become central to understanding space in the contemporary context of the planet’s habitability crisis. The zone appears as a spatial modality that defies usual categories and confronts us with the power of space, whether it be nature, the Earth, or the body.
Jeanne Etelain teaches philosophy and contemporary theory at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier. She is also an associate researcher at the HAR (History of Arts and Representations) laboratory at Paris Nanterre University. Her research focuses on the philosophy of ecology, space, and the Earth, particularly new materialisms, feminist epistemologies, and the renewal of contemporary metaphysics.
