Quatrième de couverture : Fin des sociétés paysannes, cuisines équipées, bétonisation des terres arables, effacement des savoir-faire et cosmogonies autochtones, ignorance des rythmes du monde vivant… Ces phénomènes divers que l’on apprend aujourd’hui à déplorer sont bel et bien liés, nous disent depuis un demi-siècle des théoriciennes écoféministes, critiques de la modernité industrielle. C’est à leurs pensées, méconnues en France, ainsi qu’aux leçons existentielles et politiques qu’il convient d’en tirer, qu’est consacré cet ouvrage. L’auteure explore les alternatives écologiques et anticapitalistes contemporaines pour démontrer que la vie quotidienne est un terrain politique fondateur.

Sans politique du quotidien, sans reconstruction collective et radicale de notre subsistance, il n’y aura pas de société égalitaire ni écologique. Contrairement aux idées reçues, ce n’est pas la généralisation du salariat qui a permis d’accéder à la société de consommation et au confort appareillé, mais le colonialisme et le travail domestique féminin. Une autre organisation politique de la vie et des rapports à la nature est possible. À condition d’être redistribué, ancré dans une communauté en prise avec un biotope et des usages, le travail de subsistance ainsi repensé devient un facteur d’émancipation. La fabrique du quotidien apparaît alors pour ce qu’elle est : un enjeu révolutionnaire.

Back cover (our translation): The end of peasant societies, equipped kitchens, the pouring of concrete across arable land, the erasure of indigenous know-how and cosmogonies, the ignorance of the rhythms of the living world… These various phenomena that we are learning to deplore today are definitely linked, as ecofeminist theorists, critics of industrial modernity, have been telling us for half a century. This book is devoted to their thoughts, which are little known in France, as well as to the existential and political lessons to be drawn from them. The author explores contemporary ecological and anti-capitalist alternatives with the view to demonstrating that daily life is a founding political terrain.

Without the politics of everyday life, without the collective and radical reconstruction of our subsistence, there will be no egalitarian or ecological society. Contrary to accepted ideas, it is not the generalization of wage-earning that has given us access to consumer society and comfort, but colonialism and female domestic work. Another political organization of life and relations to nature is possible. On the condition that it is redistributed, anchored in a community in contact with a biotope and its uses, subsistence work thus rethought becomes a factor of emancipation. The fabrication of daily life then appears for what it is: a revolutionary issue.
