Conference EASST- 4S 2024 Amsterdam: Making and Doing Transformations

Opening science: transformations of academic knowledge production and dissemination

Traditional Open Panel P062 at conference EASST-4S 2024 Amsterdam: Making and Doing Transformations.

Convenors:

Didier Torny (CSI – Centre de sociologie de l’innovation, i3 UMR CNRS, Mines Paris-PSL)
Quentin Dufour (CMH – Centre Maurice Halbwachs, ENS-EHESS)

Short Abstract: For many national governments, transnational and international organizations, we are in the age of open science. But, in practice, their injuctions raise many questions for STS scholars. The panel will tackle the multiple implementations of OS and highlight how openness transforms existing issues.

The Environmentalization of Economics

Traditional Open Panel P078 at conference EASST-4S 2024 Amsterdam: Making and Doing Transformations.

Convenors:

Alexandre Violle (CSI – Centre de sociologie de l’innovation, i3 UMR CNRS, Mines Paris-PSL)
Béatrice Cointe (CSI – Centre de sociologie de l’innovation, i3 UMR CNRS, Mines Paris-PSL)
Kewan Mertens (Armines, CSI – Centre de sociologie de l’innovation, i3 UMR CNRS, Mines Paris-PSL)

Short Abstract: The “environmentalization of economics” investigates how attempts to account for the environment are changing practices, tools and epistemologies in economics. This invites us to question which economy and which environment are being jointly produced, and what possibilities may thereby be ruled out.

Sensory interfaces: Research through sonic experimentations at the intersection of STS and Design

Combined Format Open Panel P163 at conference EASST-4S 2024 Amsterdam: Making and Doing Transformations.

Convenors:

Léone-Alix Mazaud (CSI – Centre de sociologie de l’innovation, i3 UMR CNRS, Mines Paris-PSL)
Juan Gomez (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Geneva University of Arts Design)

Short Abstract: This panel aims to bring together STS and Design research to engage in a cross-disciplinary exploration of and trough sound. How to form a critical sonic practice that enables new forms of sensitivities to be part of the scientific process as legitimate ways of knowledge production?

Do you need a laboratory if you have a project? How projectification transforms public research and research collectives

Traditional Open Panel P169 at conference EASST-4S 2024 Amsterdam: Making and Doing Transformations.

Convenors:

Anne-Gaëlle Beurier (LPED, Sorbonne Nouvelle University)
Victoria Brun (CSI – Centre de sociologie de l’innovation, i3 UMR CNRS, Mines Paris-PSL)

Short Abstract: While project-grant programmation grows for science funding, research projects take diverse forms. The panel examines the transformations this policy instrument induces in terms of organization, division of labor, formation of scientific collectives and political commitment.
