First findings of the project
A year ago, the CEA, University of Caen/MRSH, Mines Paris-PSL, Dôme de Caen and IRTS Normandie-Caen launched an exploratory SSH observatory project on energy crises adptation practices (PROMETHEE). This half-day conference aims to present the first findings of the project.
The “involuntary collective sobriety” announced in France for winter 2022-2023 provided an opportunity for the various energy transition scenarios to be discussed in the public arena, and has brought the notion of sobriety back into focus. In a social and cultural context based on the idea of development and growth, how are discourses encouraging moderate energy consumption perceived by civil society? And how is this call for sobriety put into practice? Finally, isn’t “sobriety” – often understood as a mere “sacrifice” to consumption aimed at maintaining the techno-economic system – the key to individual and collective autonomy for a genuine energy transition that is both socio-technical and political?
