Pierluigi Masai is a PhD student in Applied Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Trieste. He holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Trieste, and a Postgraduate Degree in Science Communication from the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste. He studied Filmmaking at an academy in Bologna and attended a Master in Filmmaking at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television in Los Angeles.
Pierluigi’s interests span from Technology Assessment and innovation processes to communication and media studies. As a science communicator, he actively collaborates with the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival where he has co-organized panels on the role of science in society and on transhumanism.
His PhD research focuses on the ethics and governance of AI with an approach rooted in STS. His dissertation research, supervised by Simone Arnaldi and Luca Bortolussi, investigates the ways in which Responsible Artificial Intelligence principles and guidelines are translated into practices. Specifically, his research analyses the activities of a multinational financial company.
During his stay in Paris, Pierluigi is currently focusing on the data analysis and therefore on writing his thesis.
