Depuis la pandémie de la Covid-19, le développement industriel suscite un intérêt renouvelé parmi le personnel politique français. Après avoir soutenu pendant une trentaine d’années l’avènement d’une société de services centrée sur l’adoption généralisée de l’informatique, de nombreux acteurs politiques et économiques appellent à la réindustrialisation du territoire, pris dans des tensions entre promesses d’autonomie stratégique, urgence du développement des secteurs de la transition et confrontations aux crises environnementales et sociales.
À travers une approche interdisciplinaire, cet ouvrage analyse l’évolution des formes de l’industrie pendant la période contemporaine en se concentrant sur quatre questions clés : comment les transformations industrielles nous poussent-elles à repenser nos méthodes d’enquête ? Comment les technologies de l’information ont-elles transformé les manières de faire industrie ? Quels acteurs humains et non humains résistent aux processus d’industrialisation ? Traversant, au fil de leurs enquêtes, des secteurs industriels variés (plomb, bâtiment, extraction minérale, micro-électronique, pétrochimie, pharmacie, e-commerce), les auteur·es de cet ouvrage rendent compte des processus en tension (innovation, territorialisation, contamination, contestation, écologisation) qui traversent le déploiement et la reconfiguration des activités industrielles. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, industrial development has regained the attention of French politicians. After some thirty years of supporting the advent of a service society based on the widespread use of information technology, many political and economic actors are calling for the reindustrialisation of the country, caught between the promise of strategic autonomy, the urgency of developing transition sectors and the confrontation with environmental and social crises.
Taking an interdisciplinary approach, this book analyses the changing forms of industry in the contemporary period, focusing on four key questions: How do industrial transformations lead us to rethink our methods of inquiry? How have information technologies changed the way industry is done? Which human and non-human actors are resisting processes of industrialisation? What territories are produced by these reconfigurations?
Covering a wide range of industrial sectors (lead, construction, mineral extraction, microelectronics, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce), the authors of this book report on the processes running in tension (innovation, territorialization, contamination, contestation, ecologization) as industrial activities are deployed and reconfigured.
