Tessa Bonincontro is a postdoctoral researcher in the ANTICIP project (Anticipation: the futures of French subsurface use) funded by the PEPR “Sous-sol bien commun” (The Subsurface as a Common Good) research program, coordinated by Alexandre Violle and Brice Laurent CSI-Mines Paris – PSL), and in which Juliette Cerceau (IMT Mines Alès) collaborates. As part of the project, Tessa is investigating how different stakeholders envision and shape the future of the subsurface in the Paris Basin.
Tessa’s doctoral research on the processes of (in)visibilization at work in post-mining territories and their effects on the habitability of these areas initiated her investigation into the nexus between society and the subsurface. This postdoctoral research represents a logical progression in her research, which has hitherto analyzed the past and present impacts of mining activities and will henceforth explore the possible futures for the subsurface, linking territorial memory, current issues, and forward-looking projections.
Her interdisciplinary background, encompassing studies in agronomic engineering school and a PhD in environmental sociology, is a contributing factor to her interest in the dialogue between science and society, which she both studies and actively seeks to engage with in her research projects. Her interest in transdisciplinarity and methodological experimentation led her to collaborate with three artists on a research-creation project during her doctoral studies, exploring the discreet, intimate and often unspeakable adaptations of people living in contaminated areas.
