16 November 2012: debating responsibility in built-in renewable energy

As announced earlier in this blog, Mines ParisTech will be hosting the Observatory’s conference on “Debating responsible innovation in built-in renewable energy and architecture”, on Friday, November 16th, 2012. The program is available here.

What are the challenges and choices involved in energy policy? How to take the potential negative externalities into account? How to adapt  responsible energy policy choices to sustainable urban planning schems? The Observatory for Responsible Innovation has been tackling these different topics since 2012, with the expertise of its working group who has been addressing the interface between renewable energy and architecture. The specific topic is built-in renewable energy, which refers to the integration of renewable energy production into the building itself. The Working Group explores different ways of conceptualizing such innovations as socially responsible or not within the construction sector and the energy sector as well as in national policies.

To bring out different viewpoints, the Observatory’s Working Group wanted to organize and coordinate a day of public debates and roundtables about responsible innovation in renewable energy and architecture with a number of relevant actors such as architects, engineers, entrepreneurs, energy suppliers, researchers, and policy makers : this collective discussion’s purpose will be to clarify what are the political, economic and social choices that shape differing conceptions of energy efficiency and architecture.

Due to the limited number of seats available for this event (attendance is free), please register to Ms Annalivia Lacoste, Project Manager, by email: annalivia.lacoste@mines-paristech.fr .
